Dr. Leonard Covello was a great Educator and his career had a huge impact on the Italian Immigrant Community of East Harlem in the 1950s, especially when he became the first Italian American Principal of a NYC High School. Among his students at Benjamin Franklin H.S. was John Imperio, a respected Medical Doctor, a Founding Member of Casa Belvedere and a witness to and the recipient of the influence and leadership of Dr. Covello. A presentation on the life of Leonard Covello by Rosa Pietanza, former President of the Italian Teachers’ Association, will be followed with a short video by Lou Barrella and a “live” interview with John Imperio.
