Join Anita Sanseverino and Snjezana Smodlaka for a fascinating look at the life and work of this great artist Caravaggio.
His given name was Michelangelo Merisi (better known as Caravaggio), a genius who defied tradition and created a new way of painting that greatly differed from what was the accepted ideal of beauty in art, especially pertaining to religious imagery.
He was also a difficult person, far beyond the idea of the temperamental artist! He was volatile, arrogant, violent, and dangerous.
Although his work was profound and he had some wealthy and influential patrons, his own emotional problems contributed greatly to his setbacks when it came to his work.
It is possible – or actually probable – that in today’s world he would be diagnosed with a serious mental illness.
Despite his personal demons, in recent times his work is admired, appreciated, understood and highly valued.
Anita will delve into Caravaggio’s life, personally and professionally, his trajectory from lowly apprentice to highly successful painter and everything in between.
Snjezana will show on screen some examples of his work, analyzing his technique, his style and the meaning behind his imagery.
