Do you know what a norcineria offersEver tasted the famous “lost beans” of the Valnerina? Ever heard of Preci and a curiosity that makes it famous?

Let’s warm up our winter with a visit to Umbria’s captivating Valnerina (Nera River Valley) area, famous for black truffles, lentils prized by the Slow Food Foundation, pecorino cheeses, prosciutto di Norcia – and much more!  We’ll start our tour with the inviting late-January Cascia festivities and then head to Norcia, a medieval mountain gem and birthplace of St. Benedict in the 5th century. • Italian Gestures
    7:00 PM-9:00 PM
    01/19/2021

Everyone knows Italians speak with their hands.  However, many people think that they are just waving their hands and arms in the air while speaking. This is not true.  There are at least 250 gestures with very specific meanings, that Italians use when speaking about certain things. Eloquent in their movements, Italians can offer a wealth of information without saying a word!

Join Anita Sanseverino and Lou Leonini on January 19 in an informative and entertaining presentation to learn not only what these gestures mean, but also why, more than any other people, did they become so much a part of the Italian way of communicating.

  • Series: “If you are not indifferent…” PART 1
    7:00 PM-9:00 PM
    01/26/2021

Four Part Series: “If you are not indifferent…
    Tuesday, January 26th
     7:00-9:00pm

Part 1. Celebrating National Holocaust day with:
Book Presentation “It Happened in Italy, Untold Stories of How the People of Italy Defied the Horrors of the Holocaust”. With Elizabeth Bettina
Imagine Elizabeth Bettina’s surprise when she discovered that her grandmother’s village had a secret: over a half century ago, many of Campagna’s residents defied the Nazis and risked their lives to shelter and save hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust. What followed her discovery became an adventure as she uncovered fascinating untold stories of Jews in Italy during World War II and the many Italians who risked everything to save them. It is a work that brings to light the little-known history of how approximately 80% of Jews in Italy were saved during the Holocaust.
Her book was the inspiration for the documentary, My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes, which was co-produced by Ms. Bettina and narrated by Golden Globe winning actress, Isabella Rossellini. The documentary was financed by a group led by Joseph Perella. The documentary opened in the Rome Film Festival and the Hamptons International Film Festival, October 2014. Ms. Bettina has had private audiences with both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis and her work has also been recognized by the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
