Roots of Rosebank: An Italian American Heritage Tour
Saturday, May 9, 2026  • 10am to 12:00pm
Step into history with a guided walking tour led by Amanda Ruszkowski, Director of Arts, Cultural, and Educational Programs, beginning at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum—a treasured landmark and the “gem” of the Order of Sons and Daughters of Italy in America.
Once a summer retreat for opera lovers, this historic home later became the residence of inventor Antonio Meucci and welcomed Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi during his time in Staten Island. As you explore its rooms, uncover the stories, innovation, and cultural legacy that shaped Italian American history.
The experience continues with a scenic 7-minute walk to the Grotto of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a peaceful and devotional site rich in tradition. Together, these stops offer a meaningful journey through heritage, community, and the enduring spirit of Italian American identity.
