Amanda & Dawn,

Thank you so much for this incredible trip! Our students had such a wonderful time experiencing all the amazing things Casa Belvedere has to offer.

Amanda really pulled through to ensure the students had an experience that went above and beyond what was originally planned. They are still talking about the garden, the watercolor painting activity, the upstairs museum, and of course the breathtaking views!

As a Title I school here on Staten Island, finding affordable and meaningful local field trip opportunities can be challenging. Many times, we end up traveling to Brooklyn because the options are more cost-effective for our students and families. It’s such a shame because Staten Island has so many wonderful educational resources right in our own backyard. Casa Belvedere is only about 15 minutes away from our school in West Brighton, making it an ideal destination for our students.

One thing that stood out to me was how meaningful this experience was for our students, despite many of them not having an Italian background. Our school population is predominantly Hispanic and Black, and it was wonderful to see the students so engaged in learning about Italian culture, history, art, and traditions. Experiences like this remind us that you do not have to be Italian to appreciate and learn from Italian culture, or any specific culture. In fact, learning about cultures that may be different from their own helps students make connections to their own identities, traditions, and family histories while building a greater appreciation for the diverse communities that make up Staten Island.

This experience reminded me how valuable it would be for even more students across Staten Island to have the opportunity to visit and learn about this historic landmark.

Our students’ families truly appreciate experiences like this that are both enriching and financially accessible.

The students were so appreciative of the experience that they asked if they could make cards for you before the school day ended. I couldn’t resist letting them! One day soon, I’ll stop by Casa Belvedere to drop them off.

Thank you again for your generosity and partnership. I truly hope there will be more opportunities in the future for additional classes to get involved and experience everything Casa Belvedere has to offer while developing a deeper appreciation for this beautiful piece of Staten Island history.
