From the romanticized versions of Italian cities as backdrops for self-discovery (Roman Holiday\, Summertime\, Under the Tuscan Sun\, Eat Pray Love\, Call Me by Your Name)\, to the fascination with the Italian American immigrant experience (The Godfather\, Goodfellas\, Big Night\, Moonstruck)\, Hollywood has often relied upon its audience’s obsession with Italy and Italian culture for box office success. This lecture will cover a wide range of films\, even dipping into the most recent season of HBO’s White Lotus (set in Sicily)\, to trace this complex history.\n\nThis program will be presented by Holly Van Buren\, Wagner College professor of film history\, media\, and television studies. DESCRIPTION:FITNESS AT CASA BELVEDERE \nYOGA with Toni Freda –Italians are fond of using a Latin proverb – Mens sana in corpore sano – a healthy mind in a healthy body\, which clearly describes what yoga can achieve. Yoga combines physical\, mental\, and spiritual wellness with breathing exercises\, meditation\, and physical poses.  \nRoll out your mat and enjoy the view! This program is open to adults at all levels of practice. The class will focus on basic foundational yoga postures to help align\, strengthen\, and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques are also integrated. There will be an emphasis on simplicity\, repetition\, and ease of movement.   \nMat class: Please bring water\, a mat\, blocks\, and any other yoga props.  \nPrior registration is strongly encouraged. Although drop-ins are welcome to pay at the door\, the class may be canceled if we do not have enough registered participants.

This special garden tour is designed for senior citizens who love gardening or simply enjoy nature.\n\nFounded in April 2020 in honor of Vito Biancardi\, father of Casa Belvedere Founder Gina Biancardi\, Nonno’s Garden has become a vibrant space for learning\, sharing gardening knowledge\, and meeting fellow garden enthusiasts. Nestled on the hillside overlooking New York Bay\, the garden is a testament to the traditions of farming and gardening that have thrived on this site since the early 1900s.\n\nOur dedicated volunteers and Foundation staff maintain the garden\, growing a variety of vegetables\, flowers\, and herbs in the classic Italian kitchen garden tradition. During your visit\, you’ll learn about the heritage vegetables such as zucchini flowers\, heirloom peppers\, and Italian beans\, lovingly cultivated from seeds passed down through generations.\n\nThis tour offers a unique opportunity to learn about the garden’s history\, from its origins to its role in supporting educational programs and local community initiatives.
