SPRING SESSION
Classes take place from April 18 – June 20 • 10 classes
Children Italian: Tuesdays 4:00 to 5:00 pm (ages 4 to 8)
Parliamo Italiano – These classes focus on introducing Italian language to children. They offer an interactive approach to the language, designed to get students comfortable speaking Italian. During our sessions, we explore and experiment with basic vocabulary and expressions. Worksheets and videos are also used during the sessions to assist in learning.

Paint & Sip with Ciao and Cello
Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 7 pm; doors open 6:45 pm.
Cost: $70 members, $75 non-members. Price includes one glass of wine.The Ciao and Cello girls are switching things up and bringing a paint-and-sip experience to Casa Belvedere! Each guest will learn step-by-step how to paint lemons on an 8×10 canvas. Painting supplies are included.
Each guest will receive one complimentary glass of wine. A wine and cheese bar will be open for additional refreshments.

Learn to play chess with master instructor Louis Fraser
Thursdays, June 1, June 8, June 15, June 22 at 4:30 pm
A 90-minute class for all ages: children (age 6 and up), teens, parents, guardians and grandparents will learn together and have fun playing chess. Students will learn the essentials of chess, including vocabulary, rules, etiquette and respect. Parental involvement is welcome and encouraged. Personal chess sets are recommended but are not required.
Chess is played worldwide, including in Italy, where one of the most famous chess games is held annually in Marostica. Click here to learn more.

May 6, May 13, May 20, June 17YOGA with Toni Freda –Italians are fond of using a Latin proverb – Mens sana in corpore sano – a healthy mind in a healthy body, which clearly describes what yoga can achieve. Yoga combines physical, mental and spiritual wellness with breathing exercises, meditation, and physical poses.
Mat class: Please bring water, mat, blocks, and any other yoga props
Roll out your mat and enjoy the view! This 45-minute outdoor practice is open to adults at all levels of practice. The class will focus on basic foundational yoga postures to help align, strengthen, and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques are also integrated. There will be an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement.

Nicole Langone Scarangello is a Certified Dietitian Nutritionist with extensive experience in nutritional science and the culinary arts as a professional chef and product consultant. She studied Culinary Arts at Le Cordon Bleu and holds a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, and is a graduate of Brooklyn College with a master’s degree in nutrition.

Italian 1: Francesco Bonavita, Monday 7:00-8:30 pm
This course is for beginner students who wish to learn Italian and discover the culture of Italy. Through a thematic approach, students will develop basic communication skills and enrich their vocabulary and practical expressions. Students will learn to converse in Italian in various situations: shopping, ordering a meal, interacting among speakers of Italian, talking about oneself, obtaining information about people and things and so on. The emphasis of the course will be to empower the students and help them gain the necessary confidence to communicate in Italian.
Italian 2: Francesco Bonavita, Monday 5:30-7:00 pm
This course is designed for students of Italian who have completed one semester of study or more and are interested in expanding their proficiency in speaking Italian. Students in this class will refine their skills through the development of various themes such as the self-portrait, the family, shopping, Italian food and recipes, leisure time, visiting Italy and so on. This course is also ideal for students who have been away from Italian, and are interested in refreshing their language skills.
Intermediate/Advanced Italian – Corso di Lingua e Cultura Italiana Avanzato (for Italian-speaking students): Maria Bonavita, Mondays 7 to 8:30 pm.For students with good proficiency of the Italian language who wish to expand their knowledge of the language. Students will read and discuss contemporary Italian literature and social issues. The class is conducted solely in Italian.Italian for Travelers: Maria Bonavita, Mondays 5:30 to 7 pm.This course aims to have students communicate basically with the people of Italy and previews beautiful locations to visit. Learn to Knit at Casa Belvedere! An eight-week program for adults and teens 13+

In these classes, you will learn how to hold knitting needles and yarn, and you will learn all the basic knitting stitches: Casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, ribbing and binding off. Specific materials needed for each lesson are listed below, with links to Michael’s online at the bottom of the page. Students should bring the required materials to each class.
Week 1: Casting On & Knitted Swatch & Binding Off: Using the size 7 circular bamboo knitting needles, cast on 20 stitches. Materials needed for Week 1:

Learn to Crochet at Casa Belvedere! An eight-week program for adults and teens
Mondays, April 17 to June 19, 2023, 7 to 8:30 pm

This class is recommended for Beginners or those with some basic knowledge of crochet.Today is the day you learn how to crochet and discover a relaxing hobby you’ll enjoy for life! You’ll love how portable crochet is — it’s perfect for always having a project with you on the go. And the best part, if you can hold a pencil, you can crochet.
You will learn how to comfortably hold a crochet hook and the yarn. You will learn the basic crochet stitches: chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, half double and double crochet. As you progress, we may get into the shell stitch as well as the treble crochet.
Lesson 1: CHAIN STITCH: Using the small hook (B or C) and cotton thread, you will learn the chain stitch, then you will string beads and create a necklace or bracelet.
Materials Needed for Lesson 1:
- Size B or C crochet hook (metal recommended),
- 1 Ball of Aunt Lynda’s Classic Cotton Thread (lighter colors recommended – no black)
- big eye needle
- beads with a large hole
Lesson 2: SLIP STITCH: Using the cotton thread and a piece of fabric, we will make a coaster using the slip stitch and the chain stitch. We will also learn the picot stitch.
Materials Needed for Lesson 2:
- Size B or C crochet hook (metal recommended), scissors,
- 1 Ball of Aunt Lynda’s Classic Cotton Thread (lighter colors recommended-no black),
- Square of sturdy fabric or felt (supplied by teacher)
Lesson 3: SINGLE CROCHET: Using the yarn, we will make a swatch of single crochet.
Materials Needed for Lesson 3:
- Size H or I Crochet hook,
- 1 skein worsted weight yarn (your choice).
Lesson 4: DOUBLE CROCHET: Using the yarn, we will make a swatch of double crochet.
Materials Needed for Lesson 4:
- Size H or I Crochet hook, scissors,
- 1 skein worsted weight yarn, (i.e. Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft or Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice).
Lessons 5, 6, 7 & 8: STUDENT DRIVEN: Students (with help from teacher) will decide what type of project they would like to work on. Some projects can include a scarf, snood, granny squares, bag or basket or any other ideas students may have.
Materials Needed for Lessons 5, 6, 7 & 8: Appropriate sized hook, scissors, yarn needle, worsted weight yarn and project ideas/pattern.
