The city of Rome’s birthday, 753 BC, marks the beginning of a story that takes us on a journey through the legacy of Rome, and its impact on western civilization. Come to this lecture, bring a friend, and together we will have the satisfaction of knowing how much we owe to that beautiful city on the Tiber River!

The Italian Garden: From Pompei to Today
Tuesday, May 17, 7 pmWhat makes a garden “Italian”? And how can you add elements of a classic Italian gardens to your landscape? Garden Designer and Horticulturist Carmen DeVito founder of www.Gardencult.com delves into these questions while taking you on a very personal tour of her favorite gardens in Italy and the United States.
Carmen is a native of Italy and has created gardens throughout the New York City region. She will share a bit of Garden History, Mythology, and the “Idea” of the Italian Garden in literature and art from Roman times to the present day. You will learn about the classic plants as well as design and decorative elements that will inspire you to add an Italian flavor to your own gardens.

Writing Your (Summer) Memories
Virtual classes on Wednesday evenings: June 22, July 13 and August 3

No experience necessary, just a notebook, pen and sense of curiosity and fun!Wednesdays, June 22 and July 13, 7 to 8:45 pm. Summer is the warmest season of the year, but the word also means a strong beam or capstone that holds something up or together. At these workshops, you will have the opportunity to reflect on and write your memories of the season or of those people and things that have supported you throughout the years.
Wednesday, August 3: 7 to 9 pm: This Revision Workshop is limited to six participants who have attended at least one CB Writing Workshop and have one or two pages of writing (double spaced) that they’d like constructive feedback on. The instructor’s and group’s feedback will help each participant move forward with their writing. After you register, you will be given an email address to send your two pages to the instructor by July 29.
