These unique luncheons are for true “Opera Lovers” who wish to share their passion as they spend an afternoon with others while watching a complete opera and enjoying a great meal together!

Introduction and Commentary by Opera Educator Lou BarrellaThese unique luncheons are for true “Opera Lovers” who wish to share their passion as they spend an afternoon with others while watching a complete opera and enjoying a great meal together!

L'Elisir d'Amore (The Elixir of Love) is a melodramma giocoso or opera buffa by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. The opera premiered in 1832 in Milan; and although written in haste in a six-week period, it was the opera most often performed in Italy between 1838 and 1848; and has remained continually in the international opera repertory all over the world. Today it is one of the most frequently performed of all Donizetti's operas and it contains the popular tenor aria "Una furtiva lagrima",a celebrated romanza that has been recorded by all the great ones.

The production is by the Metropolitan Opera, 1981 featuring Luciano Pavarotti, Judith Blegen, Brent Ellis & Sesto Bruscantini - Conducted by Nicola Resigno

“Writing the Italian in Your Memories”: Fall Edition

    Laboratorio di Scrittura, Writing Workshop
    Saturdays, October 2, 16 and 30, 2021: 10:00-11:45am

The workshop will take place in the cottage on the left side of the mansion, which can be reached by following the paved sidewalk and stairs.

All On-site at Casa Belvedere with Zoom option. If you are interested in participating via Zoom, email beatrice@casa-belvedere.org
No experience necessary, just a notebook and pen!

When we look back on our past, whether a year or decades ago, our stories are often intertwined with our culture—its richness, expectations, challenges and humor. During each workshop, led by author Maria Giura, we’ll focus on how one aspect of Italian American (IA) life—identity, travel, holidays—forms the background or foreground of our memories.

We’ll read and discuss short, vibrant excerpts written by IA authors. Participants will then be given prompts to generate their own writing and, by the end of each workshop, will have produced an original piece of writing. In-person enrollment limited to 10 participants. P.S. You don’t have to be Italian to write about how Italy may be part of your memories!

Register for one, two, or all three workshops.
    Part 1: Sat., Oct. 2
    Part 2: Sat. Oct. 16
    Part 3: Sat. Oct. 30

Celebrating Dante Alighieri 700 years after his death.

Dante meets Ulysses: A journey through the Inferno’s XXVI canto   • Live from Rome!

The most dramatic event in Canto XXVI is Dante's meeting with Ulysses, who carried out the strategy of the Trojan Horse, which led to the fall of Troy and eventually to the founding of the Roman line by Aeneas.
Ulysses is punished for events that would have been acceptable, even praised, in the time in which he lived. Dante falters from his concept that sinners are only punished according to the social standards of their time.

In this presentation, you will discover similarities and differences between the Ulysses of the Comedy and the Ulysses of Homer Odyssey, and also between Ulysses and Dante himself.

Join us in this presentation Live from Italy on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 10 am ET, 4 pm in Italy, and 7 am PT.

If you cannot participate in the live webinar, please note that all registered attendees will receive a recording of the session. We can't wait for you to join us!
